Stairclimbing: A Black American Story

Black History Month is a time to reflect on the contributions of Black people to the American story. Before becoming a national month of remembrance, the achievements of Black Americans were relatively ignored by others. Even today, during a period in history where there has been an awakening of the American conscious about the ills of structural racism, school administrators and others still choose to minimize the importance of giving honor to the Black American story.

Growing up, my parents emphasized education about our people and our history. They purchased encylopedias, gave my sisters and me access to the library. Most important, they made sure we had access to the people who were making history in our community.

One common theme of every Black achievement is that of a challenge, finding support and making it to the next level "in spite of." For many Blacks, "in spite of" often meant overcoming:

Racism and discrimination

Violence from whites and police

Fewer employment opportunities

Unfair housing and loan practices

Unequal education

Lack of healthcare

Sadly, these issues remain even in the year 2021. Yet at the same time Black Americans are still overcoming the obstacles that most others in this country have never encountered, because of their race, wealth, class or other status.

As a Black business owner, I am reaching out to connect with other business owners and potential clients to propose Levvitate's services on a daily basis. I recognize that without the history makers that came before me, especially my parents, I would not be where I am today.

This Black History Month, Levvitate Solutions, Inc. salutes Black achievers for their passion, commitment and drive to uplift their families, friends and communities.

Black entrepreneurs take a leap of faith & by God's grace, can reach great heights, in spite of.
