Project Management Everywhere

It's gardening seasoning and I really struggle to think of anything else and I am having difficulty falling asleep at night. But this is a good kind of anxiety and restlessness.

Planting season ---it's on! Planning and managing a home garden has been the highlight of every summer since as far back as I can remember. First at my parents' home, and later, at my own.

The work in designing, procuring supplies and labor (my own!), tracking a budget and production for a spring/summer/fall vegetable garden is real-world project management with the best outcome: home-grown, organic food.

There are many pitfalls to having a thriving garden and like with any other project, I'm trying to prevent that possibility by using project management methodology.

Key milestone tasks are:

- Develop a plan--a written on

- Choose good seeds (seeds that are heirloom, resistant, and appropriate for the grow zone)

- Clean the tools and containers (diluted bleach is recommended)

- Select a location (raised beds, in-ground, container or greenhouse)

- Prepare the grow media (till and amend, buy new soil, hydroponic, etc.)

- Water and provide adequate light and nutrients

- Monitor for pests

- Watch your plants grow (talk to them like friend, even though you usually won't chop your friends up and put them on a plate) 😂

- Harvest at the appropriate time, leaving some fruits on the vine

- Gather, clean and store seeds
